Assignment 2

Assignment 2 was about making storyboards. We were tasked with coming up with video ideas based on our three precedent studies and topics. I decided to go with a storytelling, plot-based route for all three, as my precedent studies were all documentaries.

The first thing I did was brainstorm ideas. After that, I chose one idea for each topic and expanded on it, coming up with visual ideas in my head on the way. I decided to finalise all three ideas before starting on the storyboards.

My first story is about a boy who discovers his talent in playing the piano, all because he managed to find a piano in the first place. This highlights the importance of having resources for students to use.

The second story I created is in the form of a student's imagination, who dreams of all these cool and interesting careers she has heard of, but she mourns the fact that she cannot try them out. Her teacher encourages her to work hard and pave her way to these jobs, and it cheers her up. This story explains one reason why rural students are more happy or eager to go to school despite the poorer conditions - kind teachers and the possibility of a brighter future.

My final story is about an urban teacher who volunteers to teach at a rural school for a short time. When she realises how different they are, she strives to understand the students more to teach them in a more effective way. In the end, when she returns to her urban class, she incorporates the teaching techniques she learned from those rural classes to improve her urban classes. This shows one way that urban schools can be improved by learning from rural schools.
