Assignment 2

For the second assignment, we got into groups and created models based on the design principles we had learnt. Then we combines these principles and ideas to create one model together.

My chosen design principle was 'balance'.

These are the two models I made, along with the planning sketches I drew. I decided to make one model have radial balance and the other asymmetrical.

The first image of sketches were the initial design ideas which after attempting to create, I edited. Below are the slides I made to describe and showcase these models.

Here are the slides all my teammates made to explain their own models.

Together, we created models based on the design principles variety, emphasis, balance, rhythm/ movement and unity/ harmony.

In this slide, my teammates and I showcase our final model. We talk about the elements in the final model that were taken from/ inspired by our own models, and describe how our design principles were implemented.

We were also tasked with coming up with a name for our model. After throwing ideas around, we managed to settle on 'Beauty in the Blue'.

This slide describes the thought process and reasonings behind the name, like where we drew inspiration from and what parts of our model represent certain parts of the name.

For the last part of our project, we had to create a presentation board showcasing and discussing the most important aspects of our model.

This includes naming and reasoning.

The drawing is in a 1:1 scale, drawn skillfully by Ellea Aida, one of my groupmates.

And of course, we also talked about where to find the different design principles and why they apply there.

Reflection

Group work is something I have a love/hate relationship with. Luckily this time we were able to choose our own groups and I created one with my friends. Everyone was incredibly hardworking and dedicated, spending a lot of time and effort on their own models and our group model. Overall, this assignment was an incredibly fun experience despite how tired we were after finishing it, because it felt so rewarding and we all had each other's support. I can confidently say that in this assignment, I showed TGC 5.1: understanding and utilising team dynamics, by acknowledging everyone's strengths to make the project run smoother.
